Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip condemned this Saturday (30) the approval by the United States of a sale of highexplosive artillery ammunition and related equipment worth $147.5 million (R$714 million) to Israel.

The United States announced on Friday the sale of 155millimeter artillery shells under an emergency provision that exempts the sale from the normal requirement for congressional review. Hamas said the sale was “clear evidence of the American government's full support of this criminal war.”

President Joe Biden's administration “visibly joins and actively supports all atrocities committed by Israel,” the group said in a statement. Hamas added that these war atrocities resulted in the “merciless killing of children and civilians, the forced displacement of residents and the systematic destruction of civilian lives” in Gaza.

Israel has launched a fierce military campaign against Hamas in Gaza after the Islamist group launched a brutal and unprecedented attack in southern Israel on October 7. That day, Hamas's action in Israel killed around 1,140 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP report based on Israeli figures.

Since then, the Israeli offensive in Gaza has killed at least 21,672 people, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas Health Ministry. As civilian deaths mount in Gaza, the United States' international reputation is taking a serious hit due to its continued support of Israel.

Earlier this month, the United States used the same emergency measure to authorize the sale of nearly 14,000 rounds of 120mm tank ammunition to Israel. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken determined that “an emergency exists that requires immediate sale to the Israeli government,” the statement said.
