On Wednesday, November 22, the Israeli army escorted a group of journalists into a tunnel under Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, which was reportedly used as a hideout for Hamas militants. There is a kitchen, beds, toilets and even air conditioning.

Gaza has been devastated by bombings and intense fighting for more than 45 days. On Wednesday, November 22, the Israeli army escorted a group of journalists to Al-Shifa Hospital, which it has controlled for more than a week. She wanted to show a tunnel she had discovered at the foot of a building on the hospital grounds. A few meters underground there is a narrow tunnel with reinforced walls. According to the Israeli army, this is a hideout for Hamas fighters.

Almost 300 people still in hospital

In this shelter we find a kitchen, beds, toilets and even air conditioning. There are no visible signs of recent activity in this tunnel. Israeli soldiers are looking for an exit from this tunnel that would allow them to exit to Gaza City – unsuccessfully for the time being. The Israeli army has claimed since the beginning of this war that the tunnels of Al-Shifa Hospital housed the Hamas command center and that hostages passed there. Almost 300 people would still remain in the hospital. Most patients cannot move without medical assistance.
