A passenger on a Eurowings airline suffering from a severe peanut allergy was forced to buy all the packets of peanuts offered on her flight after the crew reportedly refused to ban the snack.
Leah Williams asked the low-cost airline staff to tell other passengers about their severe allergies and ask them not to eat peanuts, the Mirror reported.
According to the 27-year-old, the crew did not comply with their request. In order not to take any risks, she therefore preferred to buy the 48 packages on board to put them aside.
“The stewards looked at me blankly, like I was crazy, and said, ‘But there are many, we have to count them all,'” she told the media.
This purchase cost him nearly £150 (nearly US$257), three times what a plane ticket from London to Dusseldorf, Germany would cost. She wants to get a refund from the company.
“Eurowings should be ashamed of how it handled this situation and how it made me feel,” she said.
Some airlines – like Ryanair or EasyJet 0 – have decided to stop selling peanuts and are asking passengers not to eat them if there is someone on board who has a severe allergic reaction.
Eurowings, on the other hand, claims that it cannot guarantee that its aircraft are free of allergy triggers.
“Our medically trained cabin crew have access to medication at all times to provide emergency care in the event of an allergic shock,” a company spokesman told the British daily.
