hits the hammer and defines the actress who will play Mariana in the remake of Renascer TV

The search for an actress to play the ambitious Mariana in the remake of Renascer has apparently come to an end. Revealed in Mar do Sertão (2023), Theresa Fonseca was chosen to give life to the character that traumatized Adriana Esteves in 1993. After a series of tests, Labibe’s interpreter appears to have prevailed in the six o’clock soap opera.

Although Theresa was introduced to the general public in Mar do Sertão, she can already look back on a career spanning more than 15 years. The 25yearold actress was born in São Paulo, where she graduated in advertising and performing arts. The information comes from the newspaper Extra.

Filming for Globo’s next nine o’clock soap opera is set to begin in Bahia next month. However, the setup is quite late. This Wednesday (6) actors were still being tested for various roles in the plot.

For author Bruno Luperi and artistic director Gustavo Fernandez, finding a Mariana was not easy. After all, Globo didn’t want to expose a newcomer without a lot of experience to a noncomplex role.

Alice Wegmann declined the invitation on the grounds that she did not want the recording of the soap opera to coincide with the second and third seasons of Rensga Hits! can combine.

Mel Maia was invited to play Mariana and she liked the proposal, but the actress was not cast due to her age and the number of sex scenes the character has with José Inocêncio played by Marcos Palmeira.

Although the young woman is of legal age, Globo management concluded that she who turned 19 in May is still too young to play hot scenes with a 60yearold actor.

The network’s idea was to cast an actress who was a little older but seemed young. A behindthescenes example was that of Camila Queiroz in Verdades Secretas (2015). At the time of the sexfilled soap opera, the actress was 22 years old, but she could easily be mistaken for a 17yearold girl.

Who was in the running?

Clara Moneke, who is 24 years old, came onto Luperi and Fernandez’s radar. Not only would Clara be talented, but it would also increase her presence in the remake. The director and casting production was advised by Globo to cast many black actors as the soap opera is set in Ilhéus, Bahia and there are major concerns about not repeating the mistake of Segundo Sol (2018).

Therefore, there was a movement at Globo to defend the casting of Clara Moneke in the role. But another part of the professionals shied away from giving the almost newcomer a character as complex as Mariana. An effort was made not to expose the actress, as was the case with Adriana Esteves herself in the original version.

In the first Renascer, the criticism was so great that the artist fell into depression and thereafter refused to do the soap opera Quatro por Quatro (1994). “This character was very difficult for me. I had to put in a lot of effort to overcome the enormous challenge. I learned a lot from this work,” Adriana admitted in an interview in 2021 when the work was made available on Globoplay.
