Home and Away star Georgie Parker is sharing her future career plans after revealing her departure from the long-running soap opera

Home and Away star Georgie Parker recently announced that she is leaving the show for an extended hiatus to pursue her theatrical dreams.

And on Tuesday, the actress insisted the departure was temporary and she has no plans to leave the soap opera.

The 58-year-old says she will stay as long as her co-star Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart, stays on the show.

“I’m very happy with that [producers] are very flexible and let me do other things that are very important to me. I’m very, very grateful for that,” she tells Yahoo.

“Honestly, while Ray is there I wouldn’t go because my character is his daughter and my storyline revolves around him.”

Georgie is taking a seven-week break from the soap and is scheduled to disappear from screens in August.

The star, who first joined the soap opera in 2010 and replaced Justine Clarke as Ruth “Roo” Stewart, will appear in the play Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica.

Georgie said she was lucky that the production wrote her out of the scripts as she took on other artistic endeavors.

“I’m fortunate that I’ve been very fortunate on or on other TV productions I’ve been on that I sort of released it — if it’s going to be long-term, I need some time off from plays. she told Yahoo.

“Channel Seven has always been very generous in letting me do this and asking me to do it [time off]. I’ll just have it written in my contract,” she continued.

Georgie is one of Australia’s most popular stars having appeared in All Saints and A Country Practice.

The star married husband Steve Worland in 1999 and the couple welcomed daughter Holly in 2000.

The actress told TV Weekly in April last year she felt the burden of juggling her career and being a young mom at the time.

“I got married and became a mother when I won my first Gold Logie,” she said. “I was divided between a lot of things – it was a very stressful time.

“The struggle I had was I’d never been chasing that kind of success before, so when I got it, I did it more because I wanted the show to be successful.”
