“Fortunately, no hostages were physically injured,” said police spokesman Dennis Krull. Officers also searched the building after the arrest – to ensure there was no other criminal hiding, as the spokesperson said. For tactical reasons, the police were initially unwilling to provide any information about possible ransom demands and demands.
The police had contact “inside the pharmacy” very early on. According to emergency services, there was no danger to the population. Still, the police urged people to avoid the operation area and follow the instructions of the emergency services.
An accommodation school was opened for residents. Everyone who couldn’t go home because of isolation had the opportunity to attend secondary school.
The crime scene is in the middle of the center of Karlsruhe, on one of the main streets. The Karlsruhe trade fair canceled two evening events at short notice due to the situation. An event with dog trainer Martin Rütter and a master show were affected.
