Houthi militia claims to have fired missiles at US warship

The Yemeni militia, which has recently repeatedly attacked merchant ships in the Red Sea, has targeted US and British warships.

The Yemeni Houthis said they fired a missile at the US warship USS Lewis B. Puller in the Gulf of Aden. There is currently no response from the US – or confirmation of the incident.

According to the London Ministry of Defense, a British warship was attacked by a Houthi drone in the Red Sea over the weekend. Saturday's attack was therefore successfully repelled. The guided missile destroyer “HMS Diamond” destroyed the drone with its Sea Viper missile system, it said in a message on X. There was no damage or injuries.

British in the fight against the Houthis: “Absolutely unshakable determination”

“Our determination to protect innocent lives and the right of innocent passage is absolutely unwavering,” said Defense Secretary Grant Shapps. The militant Islamic Houthi militia in Yemen has repeatedly targeted ships since the start of the war in Gaza between Israel and the Islamic terrorist organization Hamas. The militia acts in solidarity with Hamas and targets cargo ships with alleged Israeli links off the coast of Yemen.

One of the most important maritime routes for world trade passes along Yemen, through which cargo ships from the Indian Ocean reach the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal in Egypt. In response to the attacks, the US and Britain carried out several military strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen. (APA/dpa)
