How Russia is Trying to Get Around Sanctions Ukraine

After a long period of waiting, the West decided on Saturday to cap the price of Russian oil. Now it became known how Russia is fighting back.

On Saturday, the G7 countries, along with the EU and Australia, decided on an oil price cap as yet another sanction against Russia, Today reported. According to this, Russian oil should only be imported with impunity if it does not exceed the fixed upper limit of US$60 per barrel (159 liters). The intention is to weaken Russia financially and subsequently in terms of war.

The Kremlin has already criticized the price cap that was introduced. It was also announced that preparations had already been made for such an embargo. Now it is clear what official Russia meant by this.

Russian “shadow fleet”

According to Norwegian oil and gas industry analysis firm Rystad Energy, the Kremlin has already purchased 103 used tankers this year that would otherwise have been scrapped. According to the Financial Times, Russia wants to continue sending its oil around the world and thus circumvent the applicable sanctions.

Thus, the term “shadow fleet” is common, as Russia could use it to secretly supply oil to countries like China, Turkey or India. Iran and Venezuela are already being supplied in this way.
