If you support a gay son, he lives, says mayor after going viral

Jardim Town Hall’s post went viral after the mayor’s comments on LGBTQIA+ pride

Clediane Matzenbacher, mayor of Jardim, 193 kilometers from Campo Grande, took to social media to defend her son and the publication of the community celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride Day this Wednesday (28). The post, which surprised some, sparked thousands of comments after it was placed.

As soon as it was published on City Hall’s social networks, biased comments began to appear. Clediane took the opportunity to speak about supporting her son, agronomist Gilson Roque Matzenchacher Filho, who is gay.

“I’m here as Mayor of Jardim and mother of an LGBTQIA+ child and I want to thank everyone for their support and respect. Again, biased comments show how hard we have to fight for our family’s respect. I love my son and soninlaw and am very proud of the people they are. I thank God that he gave me a son that fills me with pride and today we can support those in need,” emphasized the managing director.

She also promised public measures aimed at the public. “As Mayor, I affirm my respect for all LGBTQIA+ and commit to increasing my commitment to inclusion and respect through public action. I will always fight against all kinds of prejudice, along with all parents, brothers, uncles, cousins, grandparents, that is, all families that respect all forms of love,” he said.

Clediane’s comment was well received, causing the post to go viral and receive multiple shares yesterday afternoon. “I didn’t imagine this impact, it was really a surprise for us,” the mayor said to Lado B.

For Clediane, defense is already part of their routine, and not just on Pride Day. “As a manager and public figure, I know that many people find it difficult to speak up and take a stand, but that’s not the case for me. Not talking and hiding is worse. If you defend a gay son, he lives. If you don’t accept it, you throw your child out into the world and make them much more vulnerable to all the troubles out there.”

Coming from a conservative country family background, Clediane believed for a time that having this conversation at home and on the street would be difficult. “Among them it’s even asked how long your mother cried when she found out you were gay. I say that I cried for a week, I thought a lot about what he would go through, but I understood that everything would be easier if I was by his side. Nothing has changed. What I’m most proud of is my son,” he concludes.

Impact on Networks The publication caught the attention of people from different parts of the country. The response was more than 35,000 likes and 19,000 comments. Among the supporters were wellknown figures such as former BBB Ana Paula Renault, influencer Mariana Sampaio, actor Caio Paduan and the official account of the Federal Office of Public Prosecutors.
