At a news conference later Friday, Abbott reiterated that the state has the legal authority to control entry at any location in the state, including Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, which led to the latest legal battle with Washington.
“This authority is being asserted with respect to the park in Eagle Pass, Texas, to maintain operational control over it,” said Abbott, who ordered the transport of about 100,000 immigrants from the border to Democratic strongholds in the north of the country in 2022 , like Chicago and New York.
Earlier this month, the federal government asked Supreme Court justices to temporarily allow Border Patrol agents to remove the controversial chainlink fence that Texas says is necessary to prevent illegal border crossings.
The Supreme Court has not yet ruled on the Biden administration's request.
