The Argentine candidate says opposition members must explain “what tax benefits they will cut.”
Argentine Economy Minister and presidential candidate Sergio Massa said on Wednesday (September 6, 2023) that if elected he would like to abolish income tax for employees. The election will take place on October 22nd and the winner will take office on December 10th.
“If I am president, workers will not pay profits,” Massa said in an interview with Argentine broadcaster C5N. “It is necessary to compare how much they charge the employee, while the directors of the companies have exemptions from a tax perspective,” he said.
The minister also said the opposition should explain “what tax benefits they will cut”. According to Massa, Javier Milei, who is also running for president, has “double talk” about the dollarization of Argentina’s economy, since Massa presented a proposal to Congress in 2022 to regulate illegal dollars without taxation.
He also criticized the value that Milei said the dollar would reach in the eventual dollarization of the economy. “Adjustment and dollarization are definitely Milei’s plan. His mask fell. He said it was $730…that’s a 100 percent devaluation.”
On inflation in the country, the minister said there would be a “reduction path” from September to November. In July the rate was 113.4%.
