In his New Year's speech, Zelensky promises to “devastate” the Russian armed forces.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed to “destroy” Russian forces that invaded his country nearly two years ago in his New Year's greetings on Sunday.

“Next year the enemy will suffer from the devastating effects of our domestic production,” Mr. Zelensky said, assuring that Ukraine will have one million drones in its arsenal by 2024.

His televised speech was accompanied by images of Ukrainian artillery and fighter jets.

Ukraine will have at least “a million” additional drones in its arsenal next year, Zelensky added, as well as F-16 fighter jets supplied by its Western partners.

The New Year's message comes less than 72 hours after Moscow fired scores of missiles and drones into Ukrainian cities, killing 39 people in one of the largest airstrikes since the start of the war.

“Our pilots are already proficient with the F-16, and it is certain that we will soon see them in our skies,” he said. “So that our enemies can see what our anger looks like.”

Mr. Zelensky also called on his Western allies to maintain their support as signs of conflict fatigue grow.

“The Ukrainians are stronger than any intrigues, any attempts to weaken global solidarity, to undermine the coalition of our allies,” Mr. Zelensky warned.

Despite billions of dollars in Western military aid, Ukraine has not achieved a major breakthrough in its counteroffensive against Russian forces in the summer of 2023.

Since then, Moscow has increased pressure along the front lines, seizing the city of Marinka in early December and trying to take control of Kupiansk in the northeast of the country.
