François starts the second part of his Canada trip by reiterating his defense of the “indigenous peoples”.
Pope Francis began the second part of his journey to Canada in Quebec on the evening of July 27th. His journey ends on Friday with a stopover among the Inuit before returning to Rome on Saturday morning. François, 85, moves rather rested, but because of his knee problems in a wheelchair.
The question of “indigenous peoples” is the common thread of his 37th trip outside Italy: both to ask forgiveness of these peoples and to support them in their specific rights.
On Wednesday, during his speech to Canadian authorities, in the presence of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, who insisted on “the importance of indigenous peoples” in the “monumental shift” toward “reconciliation.” and a “cure” – the Pope reaffirmed this line and the Church’s support for this process.
