In the College Football Playoff, Georgia takes on Ohio State and Michigan takes on TCU

The Georgia Bulldogs will intensify their pursuit of back-to-back national titles as they compete in the upcoming College Football Playoffs.

The Michigan Wolverines, Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs and Ohio State Buckeyes will join the Bulldogs in the playoffs, the selection committee announced Sunday.

No. 1 Georgia (13-0) plays No. 4 Ohio State (11-1) while No. 2 Michigan (13-0) plays No. 3 at the Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta TCU (12-1) goes into action in the Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

The semifinals are scheduled for December 31st.

The winner will go head-to-head in the national championship game at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on January 9th (8:00pm Eastern Time).

On Saturday, Georgia defeated the LSU Tigers 50-30 to win the SEC championship and Michigan drove past the Purdue Boilermakers 43-22 to win back-to-back Big Ten titles.

TCU will appear in its first playoff. The Horned Frogs lost 31-28 in overtime to the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday in the Big 12 Conference Championship.

The Alabama Crimson Tide (10-2) finished 5th and entered bowl season. The Tennessee Volunteers (10-2) are sixth.

Last season, No. 3 Georgia defeated No. 1 Alabama 33-18 to win their first Division I football title since the 1980 season.

It was agreed this week that the College Football Playoffs would expand from four to 12 teams beginning in the 2024-25 season.

The decision came with the promise of “more excitement for fans, alumni, students and student athletes,” according to Bill Hancock, executive director of the College Football Playoffs.
