Deep anti-gay hatred, institutional racism and widespread misogyny: A new investigative report ruthlessly exposes a brutalized culture in London’s police force.
The Metropolitan Police (Met) failed to protect women from uniformed sex offenders, said Louise Casey, who was hired to write the report. Casey, who is an independent member of the House of Lords, said:
“A lot of Londoners have lost trust in the police,” said Casey.
The 363-page report is drastic, tough and unforgiving, Casey said. So there is widespread bullying in authority. “Women and women public servants are routinely confronted with sexism and misogyny,” she says.
“The Met has not protected its female employees or members of the public from police force perpetrators who use domestic violence, nor from those who abuse their position for sexual gain.” There are also racist employees and employees and “deep homophobia,” Casey said.
The Met hasn’t come out of the doldrums for years. Sarah Everard’s case is symbolic. The fact that a police officer abducted the 33-year-old in March 2021 using his identity card and then raped and murdered him has deeply shaken the reputation of bobbys – the friendly nickname for British security police that tourists like to pose with. 
It will likely be the biggest police operation in London’s history: more than 10,000 police officers will secure the Queen’s funeral. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected.

But even after the perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment, new scandals continued to surface. In February, a police officer who served in the same unit as Everard’s killer was sentenced to decades in prison.
He repeatedly raped and abused a dozen women over a period of nearly 20 years. The serial killer and serial rapist in uniform are by no means isolated cases, as Enlightener Casey has made clear.
When asked if there might be more crime officials at the Met, the former government official replied, “I can’t give you enough assurance that there aren’t.” It was only announced on Monday that more than 100 officers who are being investigated for sexual misconduct are on regular duty.
