German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to allocate two billion euros for military aid, much of it destined for Ukraine. The Reuters news agency learned this from government circles on Friday. The money must be spent on new military equipment. Most will go to Ukraine. Only around €400 million is earmarked for the European Peace Fund, which buys weapons for Ukraine.
In addition, there are charges for the Bundeswehr and for deliveries to Ukraine and third countries. According to information from Reuters, the significant increase in funds for military aid in the supplementary budget has already been agreed in the government. The two billion euros are not part of the Bundeswehr’s special fund of 100 billion euros as a result of the war in Ukraine, but are additional expenses.
