Israeli officials this week ordered new investigations into reports of digging sounds beneath an Israeli town near the West Bank.

Residents of Bat Hefer, which sits right on the border with the West Bank city of Tulkarem, have reported hearing the sounds of digging beneath their homes.

Officials have already conducted three inspections and found no evidence of tunneling, but the city council has now ordered two more inspections, according to the Times of Israel.

According to Israeli media, a Bat Hefer resident recorded the sounds and played them on a public broadcast.

Citizens across the country remain under heightened tension as they fear another attack similar to the October 7 Hamas massacre.

“We take the reports very seriously and are working intensively to examine the matter comprehensively and professionally using various methods. Three checks have been carried out so far and two more checks will be carried out in the coming days. So far there has been no evidence of digging,” Emek Hefer regional councilor told Israeli media.

The city's residents say they remain fearful as they saw Hezbollah firing rockets and rockets across Israel's northern border.

“The situation is really not good,” resident Gadi Ohayon told Israeli radio. “We live in a constant state of insecurity, the settlement is under direct and indirect shelling almost every day. We can show you pictures of shells from our farms.”

“They rock us just like they rock the South and just like they rock the North. We are no less at risk. Maybe it won't happen in a minute, but we can't be surprised. Once they cross the fence of Bat Hefer and the nearby settlements of Kfar Saba, Raanana, Hadera and Netanya, the entire line all the way to the sea will come under fire,” he added.

The Israeli military is working to eradicate Hamas from the terrorist organization's labyrinth of tunnels beneath Gaza. IDF troops began pumping seawater into the Hamas tunnel system on December 14, but officials warned it would be a weeks-long process.

Israel has identified about 800 tunnels under Gaza that Hamas has used to transport fighters, store weapons and plan terrorist attacks on Israel. However, Israeli officials believe the tunnel network is much larger.
