Italy is also introducing controls in the Schengen area

After Austria and Germany, Italy is now reintroducing border controls in the Schengen area. The Italian government announced today that controls will be carried out again at the border with Slovenia from Saturday and initially for a period of ten days. Brussels has already been informed.

Rome justified the measure, among other things, with security concerns following the recent escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. Since Hamas’ bloody attack on Israel, the risk of “violent actions” has also increased within the EU. The situation is further aggravated by the “constant migratory pressure” to which the country is exposed.

To curb illegal immigration, Austria introduced border controls with the Czech Republic last night. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the background was Germany’s decision to introduce fixed border controls with the Czech Republic, Poland and Switzerland. The objective is to “avoid an immediate relocation of the drug mafia’s routes to Austria”.
