Jacklyn Zeman, the actress best known for her role as Nurse Bobbie Spencer on General Hospital, has died. she was 70

Zeman’s death was announced on Twitter from Frank Valentini, the executive producer of the daytime drama. She first joined the ABC Sudser in 1977 and has appeared in more than 800 episodes. She was nominated five times for a Daytime Emmy – four times for GH and once for starring in The Bay as Sofia Madison.

“Like her character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer, she was a bright spot and a true professional who brought so much positive energy to the work,” he wrote.

ABC Entertainment and GH also released this statement: “Jacklyn Zeman has been a beloved member of General Hospital and the ABC family since she brought to life the legendary role of Bobbie Spencer over 45 years ago. She leaves an enduring legacy for her Emmy-nominated portrayal of the bad girl-turned-heroine and will be remembered forever for her kind heart and bright spirit. We are devastated by the news of her death and offer our deepest condolences to Jackie’s family, friends and loved ones.”

Born in New Jersey, Zeman studied ballet as a child – at age 15 she accepted a scholarship to study dance at New York University – but ultimately decided to pursue acting. She made her soap opera debut on The Edge of Night before moving to One Life to Live to play Lana McLain.

Although she joined GH in 1977, Zeman made several other television appearances on shows such as The New Mike Hammer, Sledge Hammer! and Chicago Hope.

She leaves behind her two daughters.

“Incredibly stunned and heartbroken to hear of Jackie’s passing,” former GH star Rick Springfield (Dr. Noah Drake) said in a statement to Deadline. “Such a really kind soul, with no diva touch and only nice things to say about everyone. Along with Gloria Monty, she was the one who helped me launch my 80’s career when, after the screen test, along with several other hopeful young men, Gloria asked Jackie who she thought would make a good Noah Drake , and God bless them if Jackie wouldn’t tell me. Love your rising spirit sweet girl. You left a mark on many of us and we will not forget you. XO.”
