Jedd Fisch accepts the head coaching job in Washington
Jedd Fisch travels to Washington. Read on to find out the latest.
Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch has accepted the head coaching job in Washington and is expected to be on a plane to Seattle later this evening. Fisch did the first interview with the Huskies on Saturday afternoon, and there were some who thought he wasn't the first choice.
On Sunday afternoon, Kansas head coach Lance Leipold turned down the job and the search shifted back to Fisch. A second interview took place sometime in the last 24 hours where finances were discussed and everything was sorted out on Sunday afternoon.
During the trial there were signs from Fisch that he was happy in Arizona and did not want to seriously consider the offer from Washington, but the government was misled.
Fisch is coming off one of the best seasons in school history. The Wildcats finished the 2023 regular season with a six-game winning streak and an overall record of 9-3 before winning the Alamo Bowl in impressive fashion against Oklahoma.
The 2021–2023 season's eight-win improvement was the largest win improvement over a three-season period in program history. Arizona ended the season with a dominant 59-23 win over rival Arizona State and defended the Territorial Cup for the second straight year. This is the first time since the 2008–2009 season that Arizona has won two consecutive Territorial Cup games.

Arizona's season finish is the Wildcats' best in the conference since winning the South Division and appearing in the Pac-12 Championship Game against Oregon in 2014.
In Fisch's second year with the Wildcats, Arizona improved by four wins, marking the third largest single-season win increase in program history. The Wildcats finished 5-7 in 2022 after going 1-11 in 2021, highlighted by a loss to No. 9 UCLA in the Rose Bowl, which was Arizona's first top-10 road win since 2015.
The move comes as a surprise to some because even though Washington is viewed by many as a high-profile job, the Wildcats were poised to return to one of the better squads in college football and compete for a Big 12 title.< /p>
Additionally, Fisch did a media tour and said that he was happy in Arizona and had no plans to go anywhere.
“We're going to go into the Big 12 with a lot of momentum,” Fisch said after the Alamo Bowl. “We're on a seven-game winning streak. It's pretty great for Arizona football to be on a seven-game winning streak “We have players staying and our players working hard and our players believing. Where else would you rather be than trying to be in the top 10 or better next year?”
A search for Arizona's new head coach will begin immediately.
