Joe Biden watches in horror as a car plows into his motorcade: the president is dragged away by the Secret Service while agents point guns at the driver in front of the campaign headquarters in Delaware

  • A car collided with a motorcade SUV belonging to President Joe Biden's security detail shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday evening
  • After the crash, Secret Service agents escorted a shocked Biden to his car.
  • The car, whose bumper was damaged, was quickly surrounded by police and secret service agents
  • Biden and his wife had just left his campaign headquarters after eating pasta with tomato sauce with members of his re-election team
  • Security officers surrounded the vehicle after it stopped and the Bidens returned safely to their Wilmington home

The tight security surrounding President Biden was spectacularly breached on Sunday evening after a car collided with part of the president's parked motorcade in Wilmington, Delaware.

Secret Service agents trained their weapons on a black driver when the vehicle appeared to ram into an SUV that had blocked a road while Biden attended a nearby campaign rally.

The president and first lady had just left the Biden-Harris 2024 headquarters in downtown Wilmington just after 8 p.m.

The First Lady wished the waiting journalists “Happy Holidays.” Just as the President came out, his exit was interrupted by a car hitting one of the SUVs in the motorcade.

The president and first lady were uninjured.

As Biden walked from the campaign office to his waiting armored SUV, a limousine hit a U.S. Secret Service vehicle that was blocking intersections near the headquarters for the president's departure.

The car, a silver copper sedan with Delaware plates driven by a black man, appeared to him to be the SUV blocking the motorcade at the intersection opposite the entrance to campaign headquarters.

There was a loud bang and the president seemed genuinely shocked when the collision occurred.

The limousine attempted to continue through a closed intersection before Secret Service agents surrounded the vehicle with weapons drawn and ordered the driver to raise his hands.

The agents quickly moved into action, cornering the car and pointing guns at the driver.

The man obeyed, holding up his hands as nearby reporters were quickly pushed away.
