Siwa shared her new short on TikTok and Instagram this week – it’s still blonde but with cropped sides and a curly pompadour in front. Beaming with her fresh look, she captioned a picture and video of her haircut “HAPPPPPPY.”
“It’s very different from long hair; it’s crazy,” she said in an Instagram Story, before breaking out into an excited smile. “But I’m obsessed!”
The short hair is a departure from Siwa, who for years sported a high ponytail and huge, iridescent bows that became so synonymous with her that she sold themed hair bows for children. (Though she revealed in an Instagram story shared on Thursday that she can pull a tiny strand of hair into a very small ponytail.)
Her haircut is the latest in Siwa’s journey from “Dance Moms” to global superstardom.
Siwa came out as queer in early 2021, an unprecedented move by a child entertainer that was widely celebrated. In January, a year after coming out, she said that although she faced backlash for coming out to her fan base – which at the time was made up mostly of elementary school children – she felt “to be set on Earth as a role model for children” and wants her young fans to “love everyone for who they are, no matter what.” She also appeared in “Dancing with the Stars” last year, coming second and wrote as one half of the first story Two-Woman Team to take part in the reality series.Siwa also recently completed her first national tour (with previous international dates pre-pandemic), during which she, of course, wears a high ponytail and a rainbow sequin bow wore.
