The São Paulo judge ruled that TV Globo’s fees and prize for singer Belo na Dança dos Famosos must be pledged to settle a debt the artist owed to former player Denilson, who is now a commentator on Bandeirantes.
The decision was published this Friday by Judge Carlo Melfi of the 5th Civil Court of São Bernardo do Campo. He decided to urgently issue an official letter to Rede Globo de Televisão informing them of the confiscation. Attorney Marcelo Passos, representing Belo, said they would appeal.
After the attachment, the judge also ruled that an accountant should be appointed to calculate the exact value of the updated debt due to disagreements between the parties. The artist admits debts of around R$4.9 million updated to June 2021 while the former player argues that the amount has already exceeded R$7 million in 2019.
Regarding the amounts updated for interest and corrections for the period, the amount charged by Denilson is almost double the amount accepted by Belo. For the musician’s lawyer, the former player did not accept the discussion of the value because he took the matter personally.
“If Denilson wanted to, he could solve it, but it’s personal. He has a problem every hour. He only had to accept negotiation proposals for that amount, because what he wants is twice as much. worth R$4.9 million,” said Marcelo Passos.
In response to the recent appeal in the case, Belo succeeded, and the rapporteur Silvia Rocha of the 29th Chamber of Private Law analyzed that “the amounts charged by the appellant (Denilson) appear to be excessive”. This is because the calculations presented by the athlete representatives may contain incorrect updates, corrections and appendix data.
Thus, it is up to a courtappointed accountant to calculate and decide on the updated amount of the debt. So far, the calculation has not yet been submitted to the court by the person responsible.
The lawsuit has already resulted in copyright bans and concerts for the musician exceeding R$1.7 million. The latest of these took place at a show with singer Thiaguinho at Pacaembu Stadium, where the company Ticket 360 transferred R$5,000 to a court account related to the trial.
Denilson’s most recent request was made in May. He requested that the 5th Civil Court of São Bernardo do Campo, where the trial is taking place, send an official letter to Rede Globo to freeze any cash prizes or personal items intended for the musician’s participation in Dança dos Famosos.
However, in a response to the court, attorney Marcelo Passos, representing Belo, defended that Denilson wished to disrupt the progress of the trial and denied the motion, considering it “inappropriate given the lack of liquidity in the outstanding balance”. And he demanded that the records finally be forwarded to the judgeappointed accountant.
The fight between Denilson and Belo has been going on for over 20 years. The former player led the pagoda band Soweto, of which the singer was the leader, but the partnership fell apart in 2000 when Belo left the group to pursue a solo career. The former player sued the singer for breach of contract. In 2004, Belo was ordered to pay compensation to the former player.
