At a press conference alongside United States President Joe Biden, Mr. Trudeau, father of three children including two teenagers, reiterated his concerns about the national security issues raised by this motion. He said he was glad to see that they will no longer have access to this application and the dangers it poses on their government-issued phone.
“That was a huge source of frustration for her,” he said.
Canada has emulated the United States and the European Union in banning the Chinese social network. The ten provinces and three territories have also done the same with their governmental apparatuses.
For his part, the Prime Minister has also shown some concerns about the collateral damage that this type of application can cause, especially for teenagers, namely misinformation.
