By speaking openly about gay parenthood, Katherine Levac believes she is setting an example that being gay no longer necessarily means grieving the loss of parenthood.

The 34-year-old artist discusses without taboos with Marie-Claude Barrette in the latest episode of the podcast “Open your game”. As the mother of twins with the director Chloé Robichaud, she does not shy away from any topic relating to the couple of homosexual parents; Online choice of sperm donor, conception, lack of representation of gay couples on our screens and in society, evolving and ever-changing sexuality.
“If I had had these models of same-sex parent families when I was young, if I had been more in contact with them, I would have recognized this possibility more quickly and would certainly have been with women before,” believes the comedian, who would like to see more models like his young people would see, especially on television.
She says that it often happens that people come up to her after her shows and tell her “that they would have done it if they had known it was possible” (mentioning her history of same-sex upbringing).
“I find these testimonies sad,” she breathes, aware that the question of homosexuality is still difficult to answer for many and remains a very present cause of suicide among young people.
Katherine Levac and her partner have made the decision to discuss such topics – in connection with their relationship and parenting – openly and publicly.
Together they even created Grosse, a new show that was recorded in the summer of 2021, when Katherine was six months pregnant with the twins, and in which the comic reveals everything about her pregnancy.
Unexpected events and balancing work and family
Katherine Levac doesn't hesitate to point out the difficult times she and her partner have been through; like her surprise at becoming pregnant with twins, even though she had planned to give birth to her first child and let her lover live the experience for the second.
She also talks about her new fear of dying since becoming a parent and openly explains that she is struggling to manage the famous work-life balance.
“I make a point to talk about it on my show because I just hear people everywhere who are fulfilled by it. But I'm not fulfilled! There is no model for people who are exhausted when it comes to balancing work and family. Naively, I thought I could put my commies in all the baskets; that of work and that of family,” explains the woman who, like her partner, sees her work as part of her identity.
“There is no other solution than telling yourself that life is made up of waves that hit you,” adds the comedian with a laugh, who describes herself as a great, positive person and, despite everything, a fulfilled mother.
