Ukraine has no “alternative”. Before each offensive, it strikes, focusing on (relative) surprises and on systems like drones that allow for low-cost, level operations.
uncertainty
The attack in the skies over Moscow came after an endless series of episodes in which the aircraft’s range increased. And the number of vehicles involved has also grown, some with different characteristics. The Russians were aware of this and countered by using electronic equipment capable of “confusing” the signal and missile batteries defending the capital. The other sector that Kiev is constantly keeping open is in the Belgorod region with bombings and raids. Reports highlight Russia’s difficulties and continued concerns about these attacks, but also about possible partisan action. So the Ukrainians are always carrying out diversionary tactics. One expert highlighted how they create posts that they pretend to want to use while maintaining a mobility so as not to give intruders landmarks. It’s the challenge of adaptation. After a year of war, the occupying army corrected a few mistakes, and the resistance did the same with one more detail: it compensates for the inferiority of the arsenal with the inventiveness and skills of its technicians. The local industry did not start from scratch, a fact well known in Russia.
Four Factors
The deep actions of Ukraine involve four factors: 1) It is unthinkable that in such a total confrontation there could be “sanctuaries”. On the other side of the border, the Russians are firing with strategic aircraft and ship-towed cruisers. 2) It responds to the almost daily drop in its own cities. 3) Show that you have initiative and not just suffer and create insecurity in the opponent’s camp, including in inhabited areas. 4) It gives the Kremlin a choice of how to fight back. Two schools of thought: one believes that the neo-tsar will drop more bombs; a second, in turn, is convinced that the room for maneuver has narrowed. However, a third hypothesis should be added: Putin has already shown that he wants to avoid automatic reprisals, and he has stated so. It is very reminiscent of the ayatollahs’ line of acts of sabotage attributed to the Mossad in favor of “timely” revenge.
US fears
All of this is being watched closely in Washington. The US is afraid of Kiev’s military operations in Russia, at least under the normal profile they distance themselves. John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council, reiterated in these hours: “We do not support the attacks in Russia, the government has been clear privately and publicly.” ruthless plans. They intervened, but Kiev continued anyway. Some observers questioned NATO’s potential support for conducting long-range missions: Moscow was far from Ukraine’s home bases.
Help
Kirby’s caution came with the announcement that war supplies to Ukraine would continue throughout the summer. A new $300 million package is believed to be imminent, which includes Patriot anti-aircraft missiles – essential for the shield – and ammunition for the Himars missile launchers.
