More than 500 Russian individuals and legal entities fell under sanctions
Steel magnate Alexei Mordachev is the owner of the metallurgical group Severstal. He is one of the Russian oligarchs blacklisted by the EU as being close to the Russian president. These individuals were punished by freezing their assets and being banned from the EU.
In a press release released on Monday evening, Alexei Mordachev wanted to distance himself from the Russian authorities.
“I have absolutely nothing to do with the current geopolitical tensions and do not understand why the EU has imposed sanctions against me”
The first yacht to be immobilized after these sanctions in the EU is the Amore Vero, seized on Thursday in the French port of La Ciotat. The mega-yacht is owned by a company linked to the head of the Russian oil giant Rosneft.
Symbols of the vast wealth of Russia’s top political and economic leaders, the yachts are among the assets they own abroad and are subject to Western sanctions.
