Like millions of people around the world, you must have intoned it with great emotion and with all your heart “Come Devour Me Again”, the song that immortalized Lalo Rodríguez, one of the greatest representatives of the romantic sauce. Although the lyrics made a deep impression on his followers, you knew that the artist didn’t want to sing it? Yes, just as you read, the Puerto Rican initially refused to record it.
Strange as it may seem to you, his rejection had a valid reason that led him to change the text to make it his own. WHY DID LALO RODRÍGUEZ REFUSE TO SING “COME, DEVÓRAME AGAIN”?
Lalo Rodríguez’ refusal to sing “Come, delay me again” was due to the lyrics, which he felt were very explicit. Considering that he focused on romantic and non-erotic salsa, he felt it wasn’t suited to his style; also because contradicted his belief.
“I was in church when I heard the chorus of ‘Eat Me Again,’ which says, ‘I wet my sheets because I remember you.’ I told myself that if I took it like that, no pastor would allow me to go down the stairs of a church,” he said in an interview with the newspaper El Nuevo Dia.
The worst thing for the artist was that there was one word in the whole song that he didn’t like. “The strongest thing was that it was repeated three times,” referring to “And I wet my white sheets remembering you,” for which he credited A New Awakening album producer Julio César Delgado. expressed his discomfort.
“I told Julio I will return the money in advance. I couldn’t sing that, I didn’t feel good. He stood in front of me and said, ‘Put on the headphones because you’re not going to leave here until you’ve recorded. It’s what a lot of people want, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime,'” he said.
As well as calling for attention, the producer was confident that Lalo Rodríguez would return to the stage in style with this song after a hiatus of several years; and boy was he right. But, The singer accepted on condition that he change one wordthe theme of the Dominican Palmer Hernández.

In order not to feel even more uncomfortable, he suggested a change. “I told him that instead of ‘remembering’ you three times, to please him I would say that I ‘remember’ you the first time and ‘cried’ the other two times.
