Landslide leaves 18 miners trapped in western China

At least 18 people were trapped by a collapse at a gold mine in west China’s Xinjiang region on Saturday.
The Xinjiang Department of Emergency Management said the mine collapse occurred at 1:40 p.m. local time.
According to the Chinese Rescue Service, about 40 people were working in the mine at the time of the collapse, 22 of whom got out on their own.

Local authorities mobilized rescue teams to the mine on Sunday to help people trapped by the collapse, official press reported.
At the moment the causes of the collapse are unknown at the mine, the perimeter of which is being secured by security agencies to try to prevent further collapses in the area.
In September last year, 19 miners died after being trapped in a coal mine in China’s Qinghai province.
