The Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan confirmed to Czech public television that the person who opened fire had been eliminated. Rakusan added that there were no other shooters at large and there was no further immediate danger, but urged citizens to cooperate with police.

The dynamics of shooting

According to the police, officers were deployed because of a shooting at a school on Jan-Palach-Platz. The Philosophical Faculty of Charles University, located on the square, was evacuated, said Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda.

The square was cordoned off and the population was asked to leave the surrounding streets and stay indoors. Jana Postova, spokeswoman for Prague's emergency services, confirmed that numerous people had been injured, but gave no details.

On X, university students post pictures from the courses in which they are barricaded. They know that the attacker has been eliminated and are waiting for the police to evacuate him.
