Latin America with leading role in the French forum on the financial pact

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley is among the key participants in the forum convened by French President Emmanuel Macron on June 22-23 at the Palais Brongniart, who is expected to deliver a message at the opening ceremony.

Also notable on the list of leaders is Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who this year chairs the Group of 77 plus China, a bloc formed in 1964 and made up of 134 of the United Nations’ 193 member states.

For his part, Colombian President Gustavo Petro will take part in one of the six planned roundtables entitled “A New Method: Alliances for Green Growth”.

The Summit on a New Global Fiscal Compact aims to build consensus on a more responsive, equitable and supportive financial system, capable of tackling inequalities, supporting the fight against climate change and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

France foresees the presence of more than a hundred Heads of State or Government in this capital, 40 international organizations and around 50 parallel events.

In addition to Macron and Mottley, a speech by UN Secretary-General António Guterres is expected at the forum.

The topics of the meeting also include the promotion of multilateral development banks, debt, reliable information and the role of the private sector.

On the last day, Friday 23 June, there will be the family photo, the conclusions of the round tables, a high-level dialogue and a press conference.
