He is best known as an eccentric photographer who took epic shots in The Swinging Sixties.
However, legendary photographer David Bailey, 83, has revealed some of his most famous photographs of the Queen and Princess of Wales.
The photographer, who has photographed everyone from supermodels to the queen throughout his long career, said Princess Diana had “terrible hair” and the “girlish” monarch’s skin was “beautiful”.
Speaking to The Telegraph, he recalled how his assistant lit up Diana’s head during filming in 1988, adding, “I was like, ‘Oh shit!’ She said, “Don’t think about it, it was a terrible accident.”
Legendary photographer David Bailey, 83, revealed how an assistant shed light on Princess Diana during their 1988 photo shoot.
“I told her that she was very generous – that’s right, because she asked me what generosity means.”
David is known for his attractive black and white portraits, and among his images is a photograph of Diana, Princess of Wales, aged 27, taken in 1989.
Initially, portrait photographer Norman Parkinson was approached to photograph Diana, but the royal herself chose Bailey, who had previously photographed Princess Margaret’s husband, the Earl of Snowdon.
Elsewhere in the interview, he explained that Diana’s hair was “hard as a plastic mannequin” due to the “hairspray”.
Meanwhile, the 83-year-old also revealed how he asked the Queen if her ‘jewels’ were real when she posed for him in 2014 to celebrate her 88th birthday.
One of David’s photos from the shoot has just been released by Kensington Palace, but he claimed to know nothing about the exhibit.

He continued, “Beautiful skin, queen.”
His low-key interview was a far cry from his 1960s heyday when he took in some of the world’s most beautiful women, including Julie Christie and Marie Helvin.
The rough East Ender is known for his insatiable appetite for the opposite sex.
The marriage to his first wife, typist Rosemary Bramble, lasted five years, ending in 1964. He then married French actress Catherine Deneuve in 1965, who split up in 1972.
The photographer (pictured in 1984 with ex-wife Marie Helvin) came to define sixties swing with his iconic black-and-white shots of pop stars, models, politicians and royalty.

Helvin later became the subject of a series of nude photographs published by her ex-husband in his 1980s book Trouble and Strife.
The ex-wife of Mick Jagger from Rolling Stone magazine, model and actress Jerry Hall, has become another Bailey heroine.
