The 27th LGBT Pride Parade is expected to bring at least 2 million people to Avenida Paulista in the central region of São Paulo this Sunday, the 11th, according to military police estimates. According to the Secretary of State for Public Safety, last year’s party attracted 4 million participants, a record for the event.

Under the motto “Social Guidelines for LGBT+ We want everything and not half”, the event will feature concerts by Daniela Mercury, Pabllo Vittar, Urias, Pocah, Thiago Pantaleão and other important names in the LGBTQIA+ community.

To ensure access to the world’s largest popular openair event, a special transit system has been established in the region and changes have been made to the operation of subway stations. To ensure the safety of participants, the military police promised to increase the number of agents who will work at the site, which 19 electric trios will pass by.

Around 2,000 police officers and 250 vehicles will be deployed in the region. The security check begins at 10 am before the start of the main event. Since the parade ends at 6:00 p.m. at Praça Roosevelt, the military police will accompany the distribution of participants until the end of the party, which is scheduled for 10:00 p.m.

Security at the event will also count on the support of the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM), who will operate in the central region of São Paulo through motorized and foot patrols.

The companies associated with the Metropolitan Transport Secretariat (STM) and the concessionaires ViaMobilidade and ViaQuatro, responsible for operating the 4Yellow, 5Lilac, 8Diamante and 9Esmeralda lines, have been in special operations since the beginning of the year Corpus Christi holiday. Christi, last Thursday 8th, but according to the operators, traffic will be monitored to increase the number of trains and buses if necessary.

This Sunday, the train fleet will be reinforced on all lines, with reserve trains for the needs to be able to offer more journeys, in addition to the reinforcement of staff and security forces at the stations closest to the event.

At Brigadeiro, TrianonMasp and Consolação stations (Line 2 Green), as well as at República and Annexabaú stations (Line 3 Red), organizers will direct passenger flow to improve boarding and disembarking flow. Some accesses are exclusively for boarding, others only for disembarking passengers.

Avenida Paulista will be closed in both directions between Praça Oswaldo Cruz and Rua da Consolação. It will be possible to cross Paulista via Avenida Brigadeiro Luís Antônio and via Teixeira da Silva, Carlos Sampaio and Maria Figueiredo streets, which will remain open only as long as traffic safety is guaranteed.

In addition to the usual Sunday bans on Avenida Paulista, the Traffic Engineering Company (CET) also plans to close other surrounding streets. See below:

  • Rua Pamplona, ​​between Avenida Paulista and Rua São Carlos do Pinhal;
  • Rua Itapeva, between Avenida Paulista and Rua Carlos Comenale;
  • Rua Frei Caneca and Rua Haddock Lobo, between Avenida Paulista and Rua Luís Coelho.

The ban on Rua da Consolação starts at 12:00 in both directions between Alameda Santos and Rua Caio Prado. Other streets in São Paulo must be closed from 12:00 noon for the CET operation. The full list of bans can be found on City Hall’s website.

Starting at 11 a.m., the routes of 33 bus routes will be diverted during the parade. The changes range from Praça Oswaldo Cruz and Rua 13 de Maio and include Avenida Paulista between Alameda Joaquim Eugênio de Lima and Praça do Ciclista; and Rua da Consolação, from Praça do Ciclista to Praça Roosevelt. People with disabilities

The Municipal Secretariat for People with Disabilities (SMPED), in cooperation with the LGBT Pride Parade AssociationSP (APOGLBTSP), will promote an action to bring people with disabilities and their companions to the event, which is aimed at people with autism , deafblindness, physical disability and reduced mobility.

The group of people with disabilities will open the parade with the rainbow gang (symbol of the cause) right before the opening trio. The site is supported by firefighters and security guards.

In addition to attending the opening, people with disabilities will also have a reserved area on Avenida Paulista where they can follow the event with Libras interpreters and support teams. The area is heavily crowded. The accessibility of the event was planned and made possible by SMPED in cooperation with APOGLBT SP and the Municipal Secretary of Human Rights and Citizenship (SMDHC).

SMDHC invested around BRL 2.5 million in the LGBT Pride Parade with the organization of three electro trios that will represent the LGBTI citizenship centers maintained by the LGBTI+ Policy Coordination. The coordination also facilitated the registration of participants in the “Cordão das Drags” performed at the end of the parade.

Other secretariats and agencies associated with the city of São Paulo are also contributing to the event on several fronts. São Paulo Turismo (SPTuris), tasked with supporting this edition of the LGBT+ Pride Parade, will provide equipment, structures and services. Measures include operational support, nursing technicians, emergency physicians, cleaning supplies, security, ambulances, medical stations, water, snack sets, barricades, metal plates, railings, easels, cones, generators, furniture, chemical toilets, sound, lighting, among others.

The Municipal Secretariat of Tourism (SMTur) is planning a tourist relief operation similar to those carried out at major events in the city’s strategic calendar, such as the São Paulo Carnival, Virada Cultural and other events with large audiences. This promotion consists of selected tour guides positioned at strategic locations of the event to provide visitors with education about the city’s attractions, services, mobility and tips.
