New Delhi, November 14
Delhi police on Saturday arrested a man who allegedly murdered his partner in the Mehrauli area and hacked the body into 35 pieces before dumping them at various locations around the city.
Aftab Ameen Poonawalla allegedly strangled 26-year-old Shraddha on May 18. According to sources, he then chopped up her body into 35 pieces and bought a refrigerator to keep them in, throwing them in different locations over a period of 18 days.
To avoid any suspicion, he left the house at 2 a.m. with a body part in a polybag.
“The matter came to light on November 8 when the missing woman’s father contacted the Delhi Police after she stopped responding to her calls,” police said.
Shraddha worked in a call center for a multinational company in Mumbai, where she met Poonawalla. The two started dating and moved in together. However, her family did not approve of the relationship, after which the couple eloped and came to Delhi.
A police officer said Poonawalla was arrested on Saturday, revealing the two had frequent arguments and that she wants to marry him.
“A murder case was registered at the Mehrauli Police Station,” the officer said. IANS
