Lisa Wilkinson has started the new year with a dig at her naysayers after her abrupt exit from The Project in November.

The former Today show host, 63, shared a defiant message on Thursday that suggested she was “leaving the weight of other people’s opinions” behind her.

She posted a meme from an Instagram page devoted to inspirational quotes, which featured a woman’s leg with motivational text written on her thigh in black marker.

“The best weight you will ever lose is the weight of what other people think of you,” the quote read.

In her caption, Wilkinson asked her followers to join her in this “New Year’s resolution.”

“I’ve never been one for New Year’s resolutions. In 2023, however, I’m making an exception for this dazzling gem of wisdom. Who wants to come?’ She said.

It comes after Wilkinson sensationally ended The Project live on air in November.

“I’ve decided it’s time to reprioritize some things in my life,” the TV veteran began.

“And after almost 15 years of early warning television and now another five years here at The Project’s desk, I’m looking at how I want to shape the years to come, both professionally and personally.”

She continued, “So, as of tonight, I’m stepping down from hosting the show. Sitting at this desk and working with this incredible team – both in front of and behind the camera – was an absolute privilege.

“These guys really are some of the most talented and decent people I know. And you, our passionate, engaged audience, have been kind enough to make me feel so welcome in your home. I had a lot of fun, but for me now it’s time for a change.”

Wilkinson went on to explain that she will not be leaving Channel 10 and is “considering some exciting work ideas in the future”.

Her exit comes after a controversial year for the presenter, during which she was taken off the air after her disastrous Logies speech, causing a delay in a rape trial.
