The Louvre Museum in Paris, France, was closed this Saturday (14) after receiving a written threat.

“The Louvre received a written message that there was a danger to the museum and its visitors,” a spokeswoman told AFP.

“We have decided to empty it and close it for the day while we carry out the necessary checks,” he said.

People who scheduled their visits will receive a refund.

The Louvre, which houses works such as the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and the Raft of Medusa, receives between 30,000 and 40,000 visitors daily.

French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered the mobilization of 7,000 soldiers to step up security patrols in France’s main city centers and tourist attractions, his office said on Saturday.

France was placed on high security alert on Friday after a 20yearold man stabbed and killed a teacher and seriously injured two other people at a school in the northern French city of Arras.

The Interior Ministry said the security situation would be reviewed at a meeting on Saturday afternoon to decide whether additional measures were necessary.
