Singer Ludmilla suffered a setback in court after losing the racial violation lawsuit against host Marcão do Povo, who referred to the singer as “Macaca” during a broadcast in 2017.
The court decision was announced by Marcão’s lawyer, Rannieri Lopes, on the moderator’s official Instagram profile.
“The judge understood that he had no intention, he had no will, there was only a journalistic comment protected by the Constitution and Marcão do Povo was acquitted of this crime. Face of the people who reported it and disclosed it said the lawyer, who explained that the moderator’s speech that Ludmilla was a “poor monkey” was of a regionalist and not a racist nature.
In an official statement, the singer’s advisor announced that she would appeal the decision.
Fans of the singer expressed their solidarity with the artist on social media. The phrase “Ludmilla deserves respect” ended up trending on Twitter.

The host of Record’s Brasilia edition of “Balanço geral,” Marcão do Povo, called singer Ludmilla a “monkey” during the newscast. At the booth, Marcão and Sabrina Albert commented on the rumors that the singer doesn’t like taking pictures with fans. “One thing you can’t understand, he was poor and monkey, poor, really poor,” he said.
Then he tried to patch it back up: “I was poor and a monkey too, I told my friends that. Today I say that thank God I am healthy. ”In her Instagram account, Ludmilla commented on the case at the time:
“Unfortunately, there are still people who don’t understand that racial discrimination is a crime, and some still use the media space to report lies about me, insult me, downplay and spread all their hatred. We will not let such acts go unpunished, it is said to be about an absurd, shameful disrespect. It is evident that this citizen @marcaoapresentadortv has no shame or embarrassment in insulting anyone on national television. As has already been said by Paulo Autran, “all prejudice consists of ignorance” since racists do not have a moral knowledge to treat one’s skin color as superior and unique. This must be fought and I will do my part, as often as necessary,” said the singer.
