Maduro stresses the role of the people in crushing the coup against Chávez

Venezuelans in the defeat of the coup against Hugo Chávez planned 20 years ago.

In his Twitter account, the President recalled that the actions against the institutions were a devastating crime committed by the oligarchic right, defeated by the action of the masses, “20 years of determination and courage. Our destiny is to keep winning!”

For his part, Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia also commemorated the event, pointing out that April 11, 2002 undoubtedly marked the social rebirth of Venezuela and defined a new geopolitical panorama in which the people took a leading role in defending sovereignty and supporting the Bolivarian Revolution.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino wrote on microblogging: “20 years ago, the world witnessed the viciousness of this subversive faction, its anti-democratic nature and its meanness. Two decades ago, boastfully backed by imperialism, they could not. Today we tell them they NEVER CAN! Long live the Bolivarian Revolution!

The Head of Communications and Information, Freddy Ñáñez, highlighted the resistance of the Venezuelan people after 20 years of aggression and attacks, during which, he assured, they knew how to reinvent themselves and continue the struggle.

On that April 11, with the support of the US government, parts of the national oligarchy and the complicity of the media, a coup against Chávez was planned, led by businessman Pedro Carmona, who swore himself as president.

For three days the people remained in the streets to confront the coup plotters, in just 48 hours the mobilization action of the masses, together with loyal revolutionary and military leaders, succeeded in taking the head of state to the Miraflores Palace (seat of the executive) and the to resume institutionalization of the country.
