Despite the quality of the cameras on the Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra, a few minor flaws marred the experience. A major update should finally fix all of that.

This is an update that should bring the king back to his throne. In a post published on March 30, 2023 on its community forum, Samsung has just confirmed the deployment of an important update to correct the defects in the cameras of its Galaxy S23, S23 + and S23 Ultra smartphones, released last February. A patch discovered by the specialized website SamMobile.
Despite its 200-megapixel sensor and its clear victory in our last photo comparison, even the S23 Ultra was criticized for images that were too blurry or too much digital noise.
A sharper image in still images and videos
First mentioned by the leaker in early March ice universe, the patch is now finally available for South Korean users. A huge 922MB update that both improves the photo rendering quality of the S23 range and fixes bugs that have surfaced in the months following its release.
- First of all, the update should improve the sharpness of all your shots while reducing the flickering that occurs when shooting low-light videos through the ultra-wide-angle module in Super Steady mode. A message added in the application also explains that this mode needs a lot of ambient light to ensure good image quality.
- Samsung has also improved video stabilization to Full HD at 60 frames per second and disabled automatic selection of IPS when using the rear camera.
- The South Korean manufacturer has also solved a problem of poor photo quality with the night mode turned off, selecting the recording speed priority for high-resolution photos by default.
Fixed several visual issues
Another point that Samsung has focused on: eliminating the visual glitches that some users have been experiencing. In mid-March, many S23 smartphone owners had reported problems with blurred areas in their photos.
- The manufacturer claims to have solved the “intermittent blur” problem by improving optical stabilization (OIS) performance.
- Samsung has also reduced the appearance of stripes in the sky at medium and low brightness and when using 50 and 200 megapixel resolutions. The overall sharpness of these two modes would also be improved.
- A bug that prevented face recognition after a video call via a third-party application has also been fixed, as has the premature display of a green line on the left side of the camera application.
Better photo apps
The applications dedicated to the photos of the Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 + and S23 Ultra have also been improved, responding in particular to the criticism of slow photo taking.
- The autofocus (or autofocus) algorithm has therefore been changed so that when you press the shutter button, the application takes a photo, even if the frame is blurred or in focus. However, it is possible to change this parameter, forcing the smartphone to wait for the development before saving the recording.
- Samsung has also improved the camera app’s stability when the frame contains moving subjects.
- Finally, a new option in the Gallery app allows you to immediately delete newly taken photos, even if they’re being processed.
At the moment this important update is therefore only available in South Korea, but we can expect it to be rolled out in other countries soon. SamMobile specifically mentions a possible next update for April 2023.
