INTERNATIONAL – Not very reassuring news. The military wing of Hamas confirmed this Sunday, January 14, the 100th day since the start of the war between Israel and the Islamist group, that many hostages had lost their lives recently.

“The fate of many hostages has been unknown in recent weeks, and the others have all entered the tunnel of the unknown,” Abou Obeida, spokesman for Hamas's military wing, said in a televised address.

He added that “many of them were probably killed recently and the rest are in great danger,” for which “the leadership of the enemy and his army bears full responsibility.”

Hamas also released a video showing three living Israeli hostages, two men and one woman. This video gives no indication of when it was filmed. The three hostages ask the Israeli authorities in Hebrew to work for their release.

According to Israel, there are still 132 hostages in Gaza

Abu Obeida's worrying statement came as Israelis expressed their solidarity this Sunday with the hostages held by the Palestinian Islamist movement and its allies in Palestinian territory, to commemorate the 100th day of their detention and support the mobilization of their families .

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis observed a 100-minute strike this morning to mark the symbolic date, the major trade union federation Histadrut said. In Tel Aviv, hundreds of people attended a series of events, including a concert by Artifex, the last DJ to perform at the Tribe of Nova festival – 364 of whom were killed by Hamas men on October 7, according to Israel.

At the Tel Aviv Velodrome, 136 cyclists, each representing a hostage, completed laps of the track, a former Times of Israel journalist reported on X (ex-Twitter). “We will not abandon anyone,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Demonstrations also took place around the world, such as in Trafalgar Square in London, where hundreds of people gathered to demand the immediate release of the hostages.

The release of the detainees is one of the goals of the war, which was triggered by Hamas's unprecedented attack on Israeli soil from the Gaza Strip on October 7. According to Israeli authorities, about 250 people were taken hostage in this attack, 132 people are still in Gaza, of whom at least 25 were killed. About a hundred were released in late November as part of a ceasefire.
