Margot Robbie’s Dramatic REAL Life: The actress scores her first big movie flop with Amsterdam

Since her stunning Hollywood debut opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in 2013’s Wolf of Wall Street, she has consistently gone gold at the box office.

But the dream run for Margot Robbie has landed its first major hit as reviews for her latest film Amsterdam continue to give the flick a resounding ‘thumbs down’.

The blow comes fresh from more questionable publicity for the Australian actress following an incident in Argentina that saw her friends arrested after a scuffle with paparazzi, coupled with her high-profile friendship with “unpredictable” British model Cara Delevingne.

Critics have heaped the David O. Russell-directed film — his first since Joy in 2015 — with the majority agreeing it’s an overcooked mess that even its all-star cast can’t save.

With a meager 33 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, Amsterdam – which stars Christian Bale and John David Washington – Robbie plays ex-WWI battalion nurse Valerie Voze, who helps Bale and Washington investigate a murder.

“At once overcrowded and malnourished, hectic and meandering, Amsterdam is one big star-studded hot mess of a movie,” explained RobertEbert.com.

Richard Roeper of the Chicago-Sun Times called it “staggeringly awful, endlessly boring…” while The Times UK summed it up as “terribly written by Russell and bluntly edited (huge gaps between lines)…it’s mostly an endurance test”.

The film is expected to drop at least $100 million at the box office after suffering a disastrous opening weekend in the US that cost studio New Regency and distributor Disney just $6.5 million.

During the high-profile incident in Argentina, Robbie and Delevingne had just finished a meal at 3am local time last Sunday in Buenos Aires’ famous Patagonia Sur hotspot when a local photographer allegedly tried to take a picture of them.

British film producer Josey McNamara, who is also producing Robbie’s upcoming Barbie film, and British lead actor Jac Hopkins got into a scuffle with photographer Pedro Alberto Orquera, who claims the two men got angry at his presence and had him die chased down the street.

Surveillance camera footage shows Orquera running away with pursuers and then falling near an oncoming car.

He was later treated at the hospital for cuts and a broken arm.

The two filmmakers were arrested and taken to a police station for questioning before being charged with assault.

Robbie and Delevingne were understood to have left the crime scene.

The incident put the pair’s unlikely friendship back into the spotlight just weeks after images exclusively provided by Web.com, showing Robbie visibly distraught after visiting Delevingne at her Los Angeles home.

Cara, who recently returned from a multi-day visit to the Burning Man Music Festival in the Nevada desert, had previously been photographed looking tired and disheveled, and on one occasion was spotted smoking a pipe of some sort.

Sources told at the time that she neither ate nor showered during the event.

The source said: “She had just spent days in the desert, not eating too much and she looked disheveled from not having had time to scrub yet.”

He continued, “Her friends are generally worried about her after some erratic behavior, but she has a good group around her. Her sister was with her at the festival. She wasn’t alone and she has her back.’

However, the strange behavior began weeks earlier when she, Robbie and their other friends went on holiday to Spain in August to celebrate Delevingne’s 30th birthday.

At one point, Cara can be seen wide-eyed wiping cake frosting across her face during the celebrations, which took place over several days aboard a superyacht off the coast of Formentera.

Since then, the Carnival Row actress has become increasingly unpredictable in public.

In September, a video of Delevingne acting strangely, flailing her arms and seemingly unable to sit still while standing outside LA’s Van Nuys Airport, made headlines. She later boarded one of Jay-Z’s private jets and didn’t get off until 45 minutes later — although the flight never took off.

A visibly upset Robbie was seen visiting Cara at her home in Argentina shortly after and just two weeks before the latest incident in Argentina.

A source noted that Robbie and Delevingne’s closeness hasn’t gone unnoticed by many in the industry, and many are wondering what Hollywood’s “darling” and the struggling British model/actress have in common.

Robbie’s representatives have been contacted for comment.

The origins of Margot and Cara’s close bond are believed to predate even the two’s collaboration on Suicide Squad – the box office hit 2016 DC Universe flick.

Explaining it to Entertainment Tonight in 2020, Robbie said the pair struck up a friendship at a social event before filming began.

“When this waitress asked, ‘Would you like water? Would you like champagne?” I said, “God, I want a tequila”.

“Cara, who I’d never met before, was about five feet away from me and her ears just pricked up and she said, ‘Did anyone say tequila?’

‘I was like, ‘You and I are going to be best friends like this’.’

The actress added, “I really love her. I do.

“I’ve done very intense projects with people I haven’t kept in touch with, so I know it from both sides.”
