Messina, a liquefied natural gas deposit, is born in Pistunina

Ever since the outbreak of war and the start of the energy crisis across Europe, it has been on everyone’s lips. LNG is liquefied natural gas and is one of the new frontiers of heating and transportation in the world. Now it could land in the city.
The project is that of the System Authority of the Strait and is part of the actions of the NRP, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The entire chapter is called “Green Strait and includes two interventions driving the maritime energy transition: the electrification of 19 berths in the various ports of the strait and indeed a deposit of liquefied natural gas.
In 2021, the agency issued a public notice to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of the deposit, identifying costs, locations and criticisms of the works.
This technical study has been completed and on April 5th the details will be presented to the city and the press by the AdSP of the Strait. It will be an online workshop where we will find out how to set up a settlement, where there is a particular need to clarify in terms of security.
The selected area is below the San Filippo junction, between the state road and the sea, in Pistunina. This is the same area where the logistics slab supporting the port of Tremestieri should have been built. A project that, given this novelty, could definitely end up in the drawer of works never born.
The reservoir was to contain between 9,000 and 10,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, all in aboveground tanks.
