MEXICO CITY, March 29 (Prensa Latina) Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced today that there are already detainees for the fire at a migrant shelter that killed 38 foreigners and seriously injured 29 others.
According to the secretary, who traveled to Ciudad Juárez to inspect the facility of the National Migration Institute (INM) where residents set mattresses on fire in protest, those directly responsible were brought before the local prosecutor’s office.
Ebrard has expressed on social networks that, according to what has been communicated to us by these authorities, those directly responsible for the events are appearing before the Attorney General of the Republic.
It has been reported that contacts have been made with Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Venezuela to report on the Ciudad Juárez tragedy and to assist their consulates in assisting victims and affected families.
I have expressed Mexico’s deep outrage at what happened and the will of the government and people to clarify the facts and punish those responsible,” he added.
He said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the Ministry of Interior and INM for the necessary information to share with the brother countries mentioned above, adding that what happened was a great sadness.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador revisited the issue in his morning press conference this Wednesday, stating that the investigation is in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office.
He criticized the right-wing press for sounding the alarm without knowing all the details of the event and ignoring the professional investigations being conducted around the unfortunate event.
The President stressed that deep down there is the problem of people’s desperation to leave their countries because the causes of the exodus are not being addressed as they should be, which, although it has decreased somewhat, in many countries in the region stops.
Said that the Secretary of Security Icela Rodríguez. will be responsible for the information and that innocent people will not be accused, he assured.
