TO Milan It’s not just the problem of high rents. There is a “dark degeneration” of prices, denounces the writer Jonathan Bazzi, who posted on his Twitter page photos of tempura broccoli at 38 euros per kilo and the receipt for 43 euros with an attached picture of the order in a restaurant: two focaccine, two stuffed zucchini flowers, two buns, two “mozzariselle” breaded and a Sofficino. We are in the Porta Venezia area, in a delicatessen bakery, without table service.
The complaint – In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Bazzi spoke of a “dark degeneration” in view of Milan’s high prices. “In the same neighborhood there are other clubs or pizzerias that seem “accessible” but charge 26 euros for a pizza, 12 euros for a dessert and 4 euros just for entry. For the author, this is not a legitimate win for local managers, who are also struggling with the high cost of living – between rent and bills – instead of speculating “Selling a so-called chickpea tartare with zucchini for 38 euros a kilo, in a Non-luxury context, seems excessive to me.”
Veganism and Vegetarianism – In the social media posts, Bazzi also denounces a misinterpretation of veganism, which at these prices seems to be a lifestyle choice reserved for few, when – on the contrary – it should be even more accessible than an omnivore diet. “Being vegan doesn’t mean just eating tofu or avocado, it also means reviving traditional Mediterranean dishes.”
