More deportations of migrants in the USA in exchange for aid to Ukraine

Washington, December 13 (Prensa Latina) Joe Biden's administration would agree to drastic changes in immigration policy to ensure military aid to Ukraine, currently blocked in the United States Congress.

Biden raised the issue of changes, but the day before, lawmakers on Capitol Hill talked about that possibility, ensuring Republicans support the military aid package not just for Ukraine but also for Israel before they shut it down in Washington on Friday the break leave year.

Strong changes that would be the subject of negotiations include new authority to expel immigrants at the border without applying for asylum, as well as a significant expansion of immigrant detentions and deportations, according to local media.

The additional funding awaiting Congress is a $106 billion package for Ukraine (more than $61 billion), Israel ($15 billion) and Taiwan, as well as for strengthening border surveillance and the Hiring more immigration officers.

Republicans blame the incumbent president for the crisis with illegal migrant crossings along the southern border, which have reached record numbers so far in 2023.

Biden said in a news conference the day before that his administration team was working with Senate Democrats and Republicans to reach a bipartisan compromise on both policy and resources to secure the border.

Yesterday, Biden hosted his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky at the White House, attempting to put pressure on Capitol Hill to approve this aid.

But the visitor, making his third trip to the American capital in just over a year, ended his trip without receiving the money.

However, he was able to put something in his wallet because Biden signed off on a $200 million payout from the Defense Department to be transferred to Ukraine. This amount is part of a budget that will soon be exhausted.

Russia has consistently complained about the United States' role in the conflict with its financial support to Kiev, which Moscow sees as diminishing the possibility of peace.
