Moscow suggested that the five permanent members of the UN Security Council could guarantee Ukraine’s security.
Ukraine’s future will continue to be discussed in negotiations between Kiev and Moscow. In addition to Ukraine’s status as a neutral, non-aligned nuclear-free country, the question of which countries should give Ukraine security guarantees in return is also an issue.
Moscow proposes UN Security Council members as guarantors for Ukraine
According to Moscow, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council could become guarantors of Ukraine’s security in the future. A representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexey Polishchuk, told the state news agency TASS on Thursday.
Russia recently announced that it had already sent proposals to end the war to Kiev last Friday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied this on Wednesday after a meeting with EU Council President Charles Michel in Kiev. “I didn’t hear anything, I didn’t see anything. I’m convinced they didn’t give us anything,” he said.
Turkey considers possible Zelenskyy-Putin meeting
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu still sees the possibility of a high-level meeting between Zelensky and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will speak with Zelenskyy and Putin “in the coming days”, Cavusoglu said in an interview with CNN Türk, according to Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform. The minister recounted his own conversations with the two chancellors and emphasized. “Basically, they both express themselves positively when it comes to a meeting, as long as the conditions are right.”
