Moscow wants to form an axis with Beijing against the West

Chinese Foreign Minister Wan Yi is currently visiting Moscow. Russian President Putin will travel to Beijing in October. Russia increasingly seeks solidarity with China.

The leadership in Moscow called on Beijing to increase cooperation to defend itself against the West. “In the conditions of a comprehensive campaign by the collective West to contain Russia and China, the deepening of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the international arena assumes particular importance,” said Secretary of the National Security Council in Russia Nikolai Patrushev, according to to the Interfax news agency.

Patrushev, one of President Vladimir Putin’s closest confidants, assured in a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday that Moscow supports Beijing’s claims on, for example, Taiwan. Russia also stands in solidarity with China over the regions of Tibet, Hong Kong and Xinjiang, which are inhabited by Muslim Uyghurs. The West accuses China of serious human rights violations in that country.

Putin visits Xi in October

According to Russian information, Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Beijing in October for consultations with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
