Multiple sexual assaults: a demonstration to denounce school inaction

Parents at Massey-Vanier High School in Cowansville demonstrated Monday lunchtime to bemoan the inaction of school authorities who say they have done nothing to address the case of a young person who allegedly assaulted young girls.

In addition to the parents, the collective “The voice of youth counts” was also on site to provide support.

The teenager is suspected of sexually abusing six teenage girls, five of whom have reported it.

These are cases of sexual touching and an alleged rape.

The youths reportedly reported the situation to the school, but the school administration took no action.

The alleged attacker still goes to school, so the alleged victims must see him regularly.

One of the victims agreed to testify on condition of anonymity.

“When I go to school, I don’t feel safe. I get nervous when he comes near me. I am very anxious. I want everyone to know what’s going on at school,” she told TVA Nouvelles.

The parents’ association calls for a framework law to adequately protect young people in school.

The Eastern Township School Board, through its Principal Michael Murray, deplores the fact that the school has been accused of doing nothing. Rather, it means that an anti-violence program is on the table.

The Sûreté du Québec indicates that investigations into these files are ongoing.
