If Russia continues to supply as little gas as it currently does, the storage facilities will likely not be 90% full in November as planned. That said the head of the Federal Network Agency. There must be additional savings efforts.
The head of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, considers the target of a level of gas storage of 90 or 95% by November 1st unrealistic. If only 40 percent of delivery capacity flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, at best, a maximum of 80 to 85 percent can be achieved, Müller said, according to participants at a state government crisis summit in Baden-Württemberg.
The fill level is currently around 66 percent. In a tweet, Müller described this position as cool. The next target is to reach 75% fill level by September 1st.
The goal of the federal government and the network agency is to save 20% of gas to prepare for winter. “We are currently at about 14% savings. Without additional effort, we won’t get there in winter,” said Müller, who was connected to the video consultation.
Don’t miss with 20% savings
The prime minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, has warned of a division in society by the numbers. “If we have a gas emergency, the centrifugal forces are going to be big. Bigger than with Corona, and we also have this problem on our cheeks,” said the green politician.

He also stressed that the goal should be to save 20% of energy – so Germany would not have a shortage of gas. There should therefore be more savings efforts. “It’s in our own hands. And I’m confident we can do it.” Other summit participants also emphasized the company’s unity and strength.
hard winter
At the same time, however, several speakers warned that Germany faced a harsh winter. A possible gas shortage is the biggest problem, but consumers also need to be prepared for a “price explosion”. Experts expect the price to double or even triple.

Kremlin: Russia is a reliable supplier
Meanwhile, the Kremlin stressed that Russia is “a responsible supplier of gas”. Regarding Nord Stream 1, spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured that a major turbine would be installed once Siemens Energy delivered the associated documents. “And then the pumping starts as far as is technically possible.”
At the same time, he pointed out that there were malfunctions in other units. The federal government sees Moscow’s description as a pretext to justify reduced gas supplies to Germany.
However, in the same speech, Peskov said the situation could change at any time if the EU continues to impose sanctions.
