NCAA Football: Animal Cruelty at the Center of a Rivalry

A little more than 24 hours before the football game against the University of Texas Longhorns, a long-horned steer – a “Texas Longhorn” – was found lifeless on a fraternity field near the Oklahoma State University campus.

According to CBS, the animal carcass was found on Friday morning around 6:30 a.m. The remains were mutilated and police launched an investigation.

“Oklahoma State University is appalled by the disturbing demonstration of animal cruelty that occurred overnight at an off-campus location near a fraternity,” the school said in a statement.

“Stillwater police are investigating the incident, and the university’s Office of Student Support and Conduct has also launched an investigation.”

The Longhorns (11-1) and Cowboys (9-3) meet this Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
